Resume
For
many years I have lived in two worlds, that of
artist in my free time and the other world of
aerospace engineer as my former profession. My
art reflects the convergence of these two worlds
coupled with my love of abstract. By incorporating
the elements of engineering (math, precision,
and geometry) into my artwork, I have created
a series of unique abstract watercolors. Each
one is an original and no two are identical. At
last my two worlds have come together in one expression.
I
am inspired by the world around me. Artwork lies
hidden everywhere. In my mind I transform the
things I see into basic shapes and primary colors
to become my original artwork. Sometimes there
is a delayed reaction and the vision of the artwork
just pops into my head hours later, or the vision
may appear in a dream.
My
current series, called "Razzle Dazzle"
is loosely based on the TV test patterns of the
1950's and 60's. I use a variety of color palettes
to enliven the precision of the pattern and remove
the grid lines freeing the symmetry from the frozen
wasteland of engineering and entering the freedom
of the abstract world.
Although
painting is a two-dimensional art form, I like
to give the illusion of a third dimension by adding
texture to my work.
When
I work with watercolors and ink, I prefer to use
hand made cotton paper. The paper has a rough
surface and takes on additional texture as it
dries because I do not tape it down while it is
wet. I have recently been recreating some works
using cardboard and corrugated paper to produce
some interesting artistic illusions.
When
working with canvas, I prefer to use acrylic so
that I can add a variety of textures to each creation
giving them a unique combination of shape, color,
and depth.
